THE HISTORY OF BARNARD FLOORING
Paul Barnard’s career in flooring began in 1990 when he left school and started a two-year YTS apprenticeship with a local flooring company. During this time he gained valuable hands-on experience while achieving NVQ qualifications in Retail Sales and Customer Service (Levels 1 and 2), laying the foundations for a lifelong career in the flooring industry.
After completing his apprenticeship, Paul spent several years developing his practical skills and training to become a qualified carpet and flooring fitter. Wanting to gain a full understanding of the trade, he later joined a large retail flooring company where he expanded his knowledge of flooring products and customer service.
Starting as a salesperson, Paul quickly progressed through the business and eventually became a superstore manager. While this role gave him extensive experience within the retail side of the industry, he realised that large retail environments often made it difficult to provide the personal level of service he believed customers deserved.
In 2005, Paul decided to take a different path and founded Barnard Flooring. Starting out with little more than an old van and the support of friends spreading the word, the business gradually grew through hard work, reputation and recommendations.
Today, more than 20 years later, Barnard Flooring remains built on the same principles it started with — honest advice, personal customer service, quality workmanship and high-quality flooring at competitive prices.
Based in North Chailey, Barnard Flooring proudly serves customers across Sussex, including Newick, Uckfield, Haywards Heath, Burgess Hill, Hassocks and Lewes.
